  • "Mexico is experiencing its own Hurricane Katrina": First, it is inaccurate to compare the flooding to Hurricane Katrina, considering that the author herself states that there are only ten confirmed deaths, whereas Hurricane Katrina caused nearly 2,000 fatalities. Second, the flooding occurred at nearly the same time as the California wildfires; one wouldn't expect the New York Times to report on another country's disasters while the US is having one. Third, the author doesn't take into account the remittances sent home by Mexican workers in the US when describing aid received; if the numbers were available, we would undoubtedly find that the amount of monetary support coming from people in the US exceeds that of all other countries besides Mexico itself.
